"I am sorry for the misunderstanding. I will not be leaving the senate altogether. I merely do not wish to be in the position of Cheif of State. It would not be fair to you, since I do not believe I would be able to fulfill all the duties that such a demanding full time position would require of me, especially with my other projects on the go. I know whoever takes my place will be more determined towards rebuilding the senate. I was never a politician out of choice, you see. Family ties led to my position in the senate, but I found my true calling during the war. With recent events, we need everyone capable of flying a starship and holding a rifle in the skies and on the ground. Without their efforts, all that we have worked to rebuild could be swept away in an instant. Instead of taking a lead role in rebuilding the galaxy, I look towards rebuilding of a different sort. We have all agreed that the Jedi will be essential allies in our fight, therefore their safety should be a priority. However, Rebellion forces should be free to focus on battling the Empire, not defending the Jedi. There was once a military organization that worked closely with the Jedi, known as the Antarian Rangers.
I am going to approach the Jedi Council with this proposal: The forces under my command will serve as the new Antarian Rangers, and I will make every effort to seek out cells of Rangers that survived the Jedi Purge. Anyone able to survive the agents of the Empire will have just the skills we need to strike back with the precision of a Republic Commando squad."
He would not mention that the same clone Commandos now served the Empire. If he kept up his laments about the fate of the galaxy, he would begin to sound like an old broken record.
"I know some of you disapprove of my choice, but I cannot be the Cheif of State you need me to be. Your pleas for me to reconsider are touching, but try to understand. If I was in command, I could not risk causing the Senate to deal with the time consuming process of another election, which means I could not place myself in situations of danger. I could not defend you in the same way I did the day the Senate fell. If you wish to speak to me personally, I will be waiting a few days before leaving, so feel free to approach me. I am sorry if any of you feel I have betrayed you."
His words fell on deaf ears though. Most of the Senators had already left the Senate Hall, many of them angry, without even hearing his explanation that he had just given. He slowly strode through the hall, gazing down at his old seat of the Talusinian Senator with a heavy sigh. He doubted he could even remain as a Senator if he could not smooth things over. With that, he made his way out into the hallway, passing by Senator Witten in a daze that suggested he was completly out of it, as his eyes didn't even meet that of the young Senator.
(Moving to the "Senator Flint and Witten speak" thread which comes after the meeting.)
((Actually moving to "The Senate Medbay" Thread.))
